Ivica Kostelić ( ; born November 23, 1979 in Zagrebmarker) is a Croatianmarker alpine ski racer who specializes in slalom. He is the elder brother of overall World Cup champion Janica Kostelić.


After considerable success in junior competitions, Kostelić has had a World Cup career alternating between triumph and injury. His main accomplishments include a World Championship gold medal in slalom in 2003, an Olympic silver medal in combined in 2006, and nine World Cup victories (eight in slalom and one in super combined).

On February 14, 2006, he won a silver medal at the Winter Olympics in Turinmarker, Italy, in the combined. Kostelić is only the seventeenth man in World Cup history to win World Cup points in all of the sport's five disciplines.[202948]


In 2003, Kostelić gave an interview with the Croatian magazine Nacional in which he made a number of statements that were interpreted by some as displaying sympathy with the Nazi regime. The story was publicized by the international media, which triggered public disapproval, particularly in Austriamarker, and he was later forced to apologize.[202949] He later claimed that the allegations were false and his statements were taken out of context.
