Dowell and his family have worked to raise awareness and find a cure for Huntington's Disease, a disease which has afflicted his father. The Dowells have teamed with many Eau Claire businesses, Clear Channel Radio and WEAU-TVmarker to host fundraisers to battle the disease.

In his spare time, Dowell enjoys competing in worldwide dance competitions. His ultimate win was the Canadian DDR Gold, where he usurped champion "Dos Denim" for the title. Dowell hopes his skills will give him what it takes to compete in Skoolz Fest '09, the biggest competition of the year for those on the world's underground DDR and SLD circuits. Dowell is currently registered for the event, and has scheduled rigorous weekly training sessions. Unfortunately, according to expert predictions, the reigning champion is fiercely equipped with skill, and unlikely to be challenged by any of this year's competitors. Better luck next year, D-Rod.
