James Strong (1783 – August 81847) was a United States Representative from New Yorkmarker.

Strong was born in Windham, Connecticutmarker in 1783. He graduated from the University of Vermontmarker at Burlington, Vermontmarker in 1806, and moved to Hudson, New Yorkmarker.

Strong was elected as Federalist to the 16th United States Congress (March 41819 - March 31821); elected as an Adams-Clay Federalist to the 18th United States Congress, reelected as an Adams candidate to the 19th and 20th United States Congress, and elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the 21st United States Congress (March 41823 - March 31831); chairman, Committee on Territories (19th and 20th Congresses); died in Chester, New Jerseymarker on August 81847.
