Janet E. Smith (1950-) is a professor of moral theology and the Fr. Michael J. McGivney Chair of Life Issues at the Sacred Heart Major Seminarymarker in Detroit, Michiganmarker. She previously taught at the University of Notre Damemarker, and the University of Dallas . She is a consultant to the Pontifical Council for the Family.

For the fall semester of the 2008-2009 academic year, Professor Smith is a visiting lecturer at the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinitymarker at the University of St. Thomas marker in St. Paul, MN. Her course is titled: John Paul II and Humanae Vitae.

Prof. Smith is well known in Catholic circles for her adherence to orthodox Catholicism as well as for having given the talkContraception: Why Not, 1,000,000 copies of which have been distributed throughout the world.
