Jason Fernando Grimshaw, is a fictional character in the UK television ITV soap opera, Coronation Streetmarker. Portrayed by actor Ryan Thomas, the character first appeared during the episode airing on 25 December 2000.

Storylines

Arrival

Jason is very much the opposite of half brother Todd. He is very self-centred and lacks forethought. He is also quite bigoted, being strongly homophobic and seeing infidelity on the part of men as just a bit of fun.

Jason is the son of Eileen Grimshaw and Tony Stewart, but for many years didn't know his father. Upon his arrival, he was an aspiring runner - something which Eileen didn't completely approve of.

He worked for a brief period in Sally Webster's electrical shop in 2001 until the failing business caught fire.

He was the one to discover a traumatised Toyah Battersby lying in the ginnel, following her rape in April 2001, when he was out jogging early one morning.

Early relationships

Although Jason has had many girlfriends, all of them were short-lived since he is commitment-phobic. He has had romantic relationships with street residents, Candice Stowe and Sarah-Louise Platt.

He seemed to have settled down with Violet Wilson, even uncharacteristically promising to look after her when he thought she was pregnant. However, they split up after he was unable to cope with her confession that she had shared a drunken kiss with Charlie Stubbs.

While they were apart, he began seeing Sarah and continued the affair even after he and Violet reunited. Eventually Violet found out and dumped Jason.

Relationship with Sarah

He continued seeing Sarah, much to the dismay of their mothers. Their relationship was rocky as she felt insecure about his relationship with Violet and the fact he proposed to her while with Sarah. This led to a showdown in which Sarah dumped Jason in the Rovers by throwing his pint over his head. After days of bickering, Jason decided to win Sarah back, and after she refused to speak to him, Jason broke into her house and asked her to marry him. She accepted, although they had a cool reception from their mothers. They announced their engagement in the Rovers in front of Violet, which Sarah wanted to do to make a point.

First marriage to Sarah

The wedding, though, was a disaster. Jason decided it wasn't for him, and escaped through a toilet window, leaving Sarah heartbroken. After months of ignoring him because of this, she slowly started to come round and began seeing him again. But on Christmas Day 2006, Jason had a major surprise delivered to the front door in the shape of a baby - his little girl by a young woman called Emma.

Meeting his father

Jason was briefly reunited with his estranged father, Tony Stewart, in 2003.

Baby Holly

On Christmas Day 2006, a baby was left on the doorstep of the Grimshaw's, the baby was apparently the product of a one-night stand between Jason and her mother, Emma. Jason took a long time to get used to being a father. He was helped, however, by Eileen and Sarah.

In January 2007, Jason lost close friend and work mate Charlie Stubbs. Jason was very upset by Charlie's demise, who was murdered by Tracy Barlow. Along with Maria Sutherland, Jason saw through Tracy's self-defence story and gave evidence against her when she stood trial for his murder.

In April, after seeing reports of the murder trial of Tracy Barlow, Emma realised Charlie was the father of her daughter. Charlie gave Jason's name when he had a one night stand with Emma. When Emma dropped Holly at Jason's on Christmas Day, she saw Eileen and genuinely believed that she had left her daughter with her father. After threatening to fight for custody, Eileen gave in and returned Holly to her mother.

Second marriage to Sarah and feud with David

Jason's mother-in-law, Gail, bribed Jason to keep an eye on her evil son David Platt, but it wasn't easy. David dragged Jason onto the roof on 20 August, and confessed that he wanted to murder his whole family, leaving Jason stunned.

When Sarah refused to invite David to her wedding, he vowed that Jason would not marry Sarah, and unbolted all the bolts on some scaffolding. Jason went plummeting to the ground and ended up in hospital. He then told Gail what David had said while on the factory roof.

Jason married Sarah on Halloween, 2007. David invited Jason's brother, Todd, (also Sarah's ex and the father of her deceased son, Billy) to the wedding, hoping to cause havoc. However, this backfired and things looked too good for the big day. David - in a further attempt to sabotage the wedding - faked a suicide while the ceremony was in progress, but Sarah insisted that they carry on regardless.

David's fake suicide attempt put Jason and Sarah's marriage on the rocks. Gail let David move back home and the couple's honeymoon was cut short. Sarah knew that it was just a stunt to ruin the wedding but Jason didn't believe it. On 5 November, Jason was meant to take Sarah's wedding dress to the cleaners but accidentally left it in Roy's cafe and David picked it up. He put it in a puddle before placing it in a bin bag with the other bits and pieces the Morton kids got from their neighbours. The Mortons' Guy Fawkes got first prize and whilst being burnt Sarah recognised her wedding dress before Jason admitted that he accidentally lost it somewhere. Sarah knew immediately that this was David's doing.

Sarah's departure and relationship with Becky

Jason, Sarah and Bethany were set to leave for Milan on December 30, after Sarah got the job for her uncle Stephen. Jason backed out, leaving Sarah and Bethany to go alone, when Sarah admitted that she had planted the drugs in David's drawer.

On New Year's Eve 2007, Jason and Becky Granger had a lingering kiss as the midnight chimes rang, and on 1 February, they slept together. Jason regretted it the next morning and went to see Sarah in Milan, to tell her he had slept with Becky. Instead of forgiving him, she gave him a black eye. When he returned to the street, Becky hit him too.

Several months later, after some flirting, Jason and Becky slept together again and they became a couple. However, they argued when Jason wanted to have a night in alone.

On 2 June 2008, Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky stated that the best part in her role in the soap was kissing Jason Grimshaw's character.

Separation from Becky

In October 2008, Jason discovered that Sarah was thinking about coming home. He immediately phoned her and she agreed to give him another chance. Meanwhile he was preparing to move in with Becky but he dumped her and flew off to Italy. Becky later attacked him in the Rovers for his betrayal..

Everything backfired for Jason when he subsequently discovered that Sarah decided to reconcile with her Italian boyfriend, just as he was going to Milan to meet her.

On 16 February 2009, Jason and Becky got back together after revealing that he and Sarah were in the middle of a divorce. To prove to Becky, he was serious this time, he proposed and she accepted. Unfortunately Steve McDonald also proposed to Becky and although she initially decided to marry Jason, she realised she couldn't go through with it and called off the engagement.

Tina McIntyre

In June 2009, Jason begun a relationship with Tina McIntyre after her bitter break-up with ex-boyfriend David. However, when Tina told David the truth about her and Jason, he turned nasty and started throwing bricks at Jason. Jason fought back and the pair had to be separated by the locals.

Tina and Jason are currently looking to buy a place of their own together.

They bid on No.12 and later go on to win the bid and now live in No.12 Coronation Street.
