James Frederick "Jimmy"
McStay (12 September 1893- 25 June 1952) is a former Scottish
footballer and manager. He spent
most of his career at
Celtic, and was a
captain and manager for the club. He took over the club captaincy
from his brother,
Willie McStay, in
1929.
McStay managed the club between
9
February,
1940, and
23
July,
1945. However, this coincided with
the suspension of the
Scottish Cup and
Scottish Football League
during wartime, meanining he never had the opportunity to manage
the club in competition. He managed
Hamilton Academical between 1946 and
1951.
McStay's great-nephews,
Paul and
Willie, also
played for Celtic in the 1980s and 1990s.
