Late Night with Conan O'Brien

On Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Godard frequently appeared in sketches. These sketches usually portrayed Godard as a suicidal gay man filled with self loathing and a penchant for bizarre sex acts and substance abuse. A trademark of the sketches was how Godard would deliver all of his lines, no matter how bizarre or disturbing the content, in a cheerful announcer's voice and with a wide smile plastered on his face. He also loves his pet goldfish, "Goldie".

When Conan O'Brien left Late Night to take over The Tonight Show, Godard did not follow him to Los Angeles. Instead, former Late Night sidekick Andy Richter was hired as announcer on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, and Saturday Night Live producer Steve Higgins became the announcer on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

It was implied during the final week of Conan's stint on Late Night that Joel was retiring.

Post-Conan, Goddard was the announcer of the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
