John Smith.
John Smith (1655/6 – 1723) was an Englishmarker politician, twice serving as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Smith's father was also called John Smith and he had a sister called Anne Smith, Lady Dashwood. He was educated St John's College, Oxfordmarker, was at the Middle Templemarker and was an MP from 1678. He married Anne, daughter of Sir Thomas Strickland, and had two daughters, Mary Smith and Anne Smith, Lady Grant. Smith was first appointed as Chancellor on 2 June 1699 until 27 March 1701. He served as Speaker of the House of Commons from 1705 until serving again as Chancellor from 22 April 1708 until 11 August 1710. He was a moderate Whig.
