KNXT is a
television
station owned and operated by the
Roman Catholic Diocese of
Fresno, broadcasting on digital
channel 50.
The station is
licensed in Visalia,
California
, about 45 miles southeast of Fresno
. The license of the station is commercial
but KNXT is a non-commercial operation.
Programming on KNXT is mainly religious, with many shows coming
from the
EWTN network, though KNXT is somewhat
less conservative doctrinally (but firmly in line with Catholic
Church teachings). The shows consist of local daily and Sunday
Mass, talk shows, music and variety programs,
the
Rosary, children's programs, and Catholic
movies. KNXT is rebroadcast on KNXT-LP channel 38 in Bakersfield.
Formerly owned by
Cocola
Broadcasting, KNXT-LP was acquired by the Roman Catholic
Diocese of Fresno, owners of KNXT, on November 2, 2007.
KNXT is the only full-power, twenty-four hour Catholic broadcast
station in the United States, although many other Roman Catholic
Dioceses around the nation provide such programming to cable or
closed circuit systems.
From
1951 to 1984, KNXT was the
call sign of the current KCBS-TV
, the
CBS owned-and-operated station in Los
Angeles
.
