The
station was the first television

and WTCN-TV
, coming
online in 1953 with the callsign
KROC-TV.
The station was launched by
G.
David Gentling, the son of KROC
Radio owner

programming from all four commercial networks of the 1950s:
ABC,
CBS,
NBC, and
DuMont [67925].
It is Minnesota's third-oldest television
station, and the oldest outside the Twin Cities
.
The family operation eventually became the
Southern Minnesota
Broadcasting Company, though the TV station was sold to
Quincy Newspapers, Inc. in 1976
and changed its name.
