KUPD (97.9 FM, "98 KUPD") is a radio station broadcasting an Active rock format. Licensed to Tempe, Arizonamarker, USA, the station serves the Phoenix, Arizonamarker, area. The station is currently owned by Tempe Radio, Inc., a division of Sandusky Radio.

History

Prior to its evolution to Active Rock in the 1980s, KUPD's previous formats included Top 40, MOR, Easy listening and Adult Contemporary. In the 1990s it became the sister station to KDKB-FM and KSLX-FM after being purchased by Sandusky Radio, which also owns stations in Seattle, Washingtonmarker.Along with sponsoring the majority of hard rock concerts in the Phoenix-metro area, the station also holds its own yearly concert called "The End of Summer Scorcher," usually around late-September. The station has invited notable hard rock acts to play the show each year. In recent years it has been headlined by acts such as Alice In Chains in 2008 & Sevendust in 2009.

Programming

DJ's on the station include Bret Vesely 12midnight-5:30am, followed by Holmberg's Morning Sickness hosted by John Holmberg with Brady Bogen, Creepy-E, and producer Dick Toledo 5:30am-10am, Larry McFeelie 10am-2pm, Fitz Madrid 2pm-7pm, The Shan Man 7pm-12mid with the syndicated program Loveline with Dr. Drew from 10pm-12mid.
