King James's School is located on King James Road, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, England. King James's is a large non-selective school with a large sixth form. It is the only secondary school in Knaresborough and serves the town and the surrounding villages. Most of the new pupils come from Aspin Park Primary School and St. John's Primary School both situated in Knaresborough. The current Headmaster is Carl Sugden.

The schoolwas founded in 1616 as King James Grammar school, by Dr Chaloner hence the school magazine is called 'The Chaloner'. It discusses school events and achievements for both school and its students and is published annually. It is created by the students and edited by the school's sixth form. King James's School has four school houses which have a colour each, Airedale - Blue, Nidderdale - Red, Swaledale - Yellow and Wharfdale - Green.There is a locker area for each year group, giving them their own space and time away from different age groups.'Quid Retribuam Domino' is the school motto.

The school is newly refurbished and extensions are added frequently to areas of the school where it is needed. Major building work at the school has been completed, with a brand new art block with new and modern facilities. Annual non-compulsory school trips are available for the students.

Dr Arnold Kellet has written a book about the history of the school.

The Uniform

Girls Uniform:

1. Green Jumper with KJS logo on it.

2. Shirt underneath jumper.

3. Green tights - for years 7,8,9,10 & 11 as both 6th form years wear black or grey.

4. Tartan kilt according to which year they're in.

5. Black suitable shoes.

6. Not too much make-up and jewellery and hair styles/colour worn to the rules.

7. The Girls' school raincoat is needed during the winter term.
