The Landshut Cannibals are an ice hockey team from Landshutmarker, lower Bavaria which play in the German 2nd Bundesliga. The Organization was founded in 1948 and hosts its home games in the Eisstadion am Gutenbergwegmarker.


The Cannibals were founded in 1948, but hockey had been played in Landshut since 1934. In 1957 the Bundesliga was founded and Landshut was put in the 2nd League.In 1963 Landshut won the championship in league two and was promoted to the Bundesliga. After that the Cannibals won the national championships in 1970 and 1983.From 1994 to 1999 the team was part of the new founded DEL. In the first season they lost the finals whit 2 to 3 games against the K├Âlner Haie.In spring 1999 the franchise was bought by the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) und moved to Munichmarker where the Munich Barons were formed.

After that hockey in Landshut began new in the 3rd league (Oberliga) in 1999/2000. In the 2001/2002 season the Cannibals won the championship and advanced to the 2nd Bundesliga where they lost the 2004 finals against EHC Wolfsburg in four games. In the 2006/2007 season they were eliminated by Wolfsburg in three games in the semifinals after a 5th place in the regular season. In 2008 they lost the finals in five games against the Kassel Huskies.
