Langara College is located
in Vancouver
, British
Columbia
, Canada
and has more
than 23,000 students. Programs were first offered in 1965 at
King Edward Centre as part of Vancouver City College. The current
site at 100 West 49th Avenue has housed the programs since 1970.
The college was established as an independent public college on
April 1,
1994. It takes
its name from the neighbourhood in which it is situated, which in
turn was named for Spanish Admiral
Juan de Lángara.
Programs & Courses
The programs & courses are delivered in the following subject
areas:
University Studies
Langara College provides first and second year university level
programs culminating in an associate degree, diploma, or
certificate. Many students go on to complete degrees at
universities across BC and Canada. Langara also offers four year
degree programs in Nursing, Recreation Management, and Business
Administration.
Career Studies
There are approximately 30 industry-based career programs, several
of which are four year baccalaureate degrees.
Continuing Studies
Over 500 Continuing Studies courses and 35 certificate programs are
offered year-round.

Studio 58
Studio 58, Langara's
Theatre Arts program, ranked within the Top 5
theatre schools in Canada in 2006. The school auditions hundreds of
people across Canada but only sixteen students are accepted per
semester. The school has around 72 students for both its three year
acting program, and two year production program.
Athletics
Langara's intercollegiate athletic program is one of the top
college athletic programs in Canada. Langara is a member of the
British Columbia Colleges' Athletic Association (BCCAA) and the
Canadian Colleges
Athletic Association (CCAA). In 1999, Langara College was the
runner-up for the Overall CCAA Sport Supremacy Award for their
athletic achievements between the years of 1974 and 1999.
Student Governance
The Langara's Students' Union (LSU) is an independent student
union. The offices of the LSU are located in the New Student union
building, above the coffee shop.
Student Media
Student Media at Langara is served by two outlets: The Voice and
Voter Funded Media. The Voice is operated by the College's
Journalism program and is a member of
CUP. Voter Funded Media is a new
media initiative that the Langara Students' Union is currently
implementing. The Gleaner, another of the college's media outlets,
has become defunct since late 2007 and its future state is
uncertain.
