General plan from the Airport
Leipzig/Halle Airport sometimes called Schkeuditz Airport serves both Leipzigmarker, Saxonymarker and Hallemarker, Saxony-Anhaltmarker, Germanymarker.

It has more than two million passengers per year.

The modern airport terminal structure extends over the adjacent motorway and railway. The terminal access is south of the railway while the runway 08L/26R parallels the driveway north of the railway, requiring aircraft to taxi on a bridge over the tracks and roads. The airport was modernized with the 2012 Olympic Games hosting bid for Leipzig in mind but the city lost out to Londonmarker. While passengers traffic is currently low compared to major airports in Germanymarker, there are plans to make Leipzig-Halle one of the Berlinmarker area airports along with Berlin-Schönefeld International Airportmarker which is northeast of Leipzig. Berlin-Tegel International Airportmarker is within the city limits of Berlin and has very limited space, not to mention the outdated Tempelhof International Airportmarker which was decommissioned in October 2008. The recent DHL move in early 2008 from Brussels Airportmarker to Leipzig as its European hub will dramatically increase the cargo traffic in the coming months. One of the most unusual aspects of Leipzig/Halle is the large number of tour operators sales offices within the airport building. This is apparently the result of regulations that permit discount operations within airport terminals. Another feature of the airport is the adjoining modern Porsche factory, with special facilities for visitors and conventions.

Ground transport

Leipzig/Halle Airport railway station has national connections to cities like Magdeburgmarker, Hanovermarker, Cologne and Dresdenmarker. There is a fast train directly to Leipzigmarker inner city and Halle marker city.Furthermore, the airport is connected to two motorways: the A14 connecting to Dresdenmarker (130 km), Hallemarker (Saale, 40 km) and Magdeburgmarker (130 km), and the A9 connecting to Munichmarker (430 km), Nurembergmarker (280 km), and Berlinmarker (180 km).

Ground ownership

Although the airport is called "Leipzig/Halle", the airport ground property tax goes to the county of Delitzschmarker. A deal between the city of Leipzig and Delitzsch led to an exchange of area. Leipzig got ground property outside the airport and Delitzsch got in 2007 100% of the grounds of the airport. The county of Delitzsch now owns and claim taxes from the grounds and commercial interest (Gewerbesteuer) from the airport.
