The WWE Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling World Tag Team Championship contested for in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) on its Raw brand. The WWE Tag Team Championship was WWE's third World Tag Team Title, and seventh tag team title overall introduced in 2002. After WWE bought the bankrupt promotions of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and disbanded the WCW World Tag Team Championship, it split its roster into two brands of wrestling, Raw and SmackDown, in a mock scripted sports draft extension. As a result of this, WWE's original World Tag Team Championship was scripted exclusive to the Raw brand, leaving SmackDown without a Tag Team Championship. Soon afterward, then-General Manager Stephanie McMahon, a portrayed match maker and rule enforcer, introduced the WWE Tag Team Championship onto the SmackDown brand. In 2007, after the initiation of the ECW brand, WWE announced that the title would be shared between both brands, thus inter-brand matches could take place for the title. In 2009, the title was unified with the World Tag Team Championship, which WWE refers to as the "Unified WWE Tag Team Championship".

WWE Tag Team Championship reigns are determined by professional wrestling matches, in which competitors are involved in scripted rivalries. These narratives create feud between the various competitors, which cast them as villains and heroes. Some reigns were held by champions using a ring name, while others used their real name. From 2002-2005, SmackDown! aired on a two day tape delay, thus reigns that were won during this time aired on television two days later. Since 2006, Friday Night SmackDown airs on a three day tape delay, and those reigns that were won aired three days later. All other reigns were either won on live television or at live events. The championship has been won in three countries, United Statesmarker, Italymarker, Canadamarker; 2 Canadian provinces and in 15 U.S. states; each reign was won in an indoor arena. The inaugural champions were Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle, who won the titles in a tournament final in October 2002, while as of July 2009, the champions are Chris Jericho and The Big Show. Overall, there have been 28 reigns with the tag team of MNM (Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury) holding the most reigns at 3, in addition, Nitro, Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero hold the most reigns individually at four.
