History
Mahamaya Girls' School celebrated its 78th anniversary in January
2009. Mahamaya Girls' College, Kandy was founded on 14th of January
1932. Mrs. Hilda Kularatne was the first Principal.
Sadachara Bauddha Kulangana Samithiya in Kandy built up
funds to establish the Buddhist Girls' English School in Kandy.
National leaders like Anagarika Dharmapala, D.B. Jayatilaka, P. de
S. Kularatna, G.P. Malalasekare and C.W.W. Kannangare also
contributed to the college.
Students are divided among four houses.
The principal is Mrs. I. Withanachchi, there are three vice
principals. There are 185 female teachers and 15 male teachers. The
school has facilities for science, commerce, mathematics and
biology A/L schemes.
