Emmanuel Noveen Malhotra (born May 18, 1980) is a professional ice hockey centre who currently plays for the San Jose Sharks.

Playing career

He was drafted in the first round as the 7th overall pick of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. During his NHL career he has played for the Rangers, the Dallas Stars, Columbus Blue Jackets and San Jose Sharks. Malhotra spent the 2005–06 season centering Columbus' 3rd line. During the 2007–08 season, his play earned him a spot on the first line with Rick Nash.

On October 8, 2004, during the 2004–05 NHL lockout, Malhotra signed a contract with HDD Olimpija Ljubljana, the most successful team from Sloveniamarker, after a short spell at HV71 Jönköping in the Swedish Elite League Elitserien. Olimpija competes in the Austrian Hockey League. Malhotra registered 27 points in 26 games for the Slovenian team, including 13 goals.

During an exhibition game in Belgrademarker, Serbiamarker, Malhotra became the first NHL player to play for a Serbian ice hockey club as he played for KHK Crvena Zvezda.

On September 23, 2009, Malhotra signed a one-year, $700,000 deal with the San Jose Sharks.

Personal life

Malhotra is the second player of Indian descent to play in the NHL after Robin Bawa.His father is from the state of Punjabmarker in Indiamarker. His mother is a French Canadian. In September 2007, Malhotra married Joann Nash, sister of NBA basketball star Steve Nash. Manny and Joann had their first child in 2008, a boy named Caleb.
