Menston is a village and civil parish in the county of West Yorkshire, Englandmarker. Along with Burley in Wharfedalemarker, Menston is part of Wharfedale Wardmarker in the metropolitan borough of the City of Bradfordmarker. It has a population of 4,660.

Landmarks

Menston's Anglican parish church is dedicated to St John the Divine, and is part of the Diocese of Bradford. Other notable buildings include High Royds Hospitalmarker and St. Mary's School, Menstonmarker comprehensive school.

The site of High Royds Hospitalmarker which is in the City of Leedsmarker metropolitan borough, is now being converted into a new set of homes called "Highroyds Village". This is a reflection of Menston's growing size. In the past 20 years there has been increased demand for houses in this desirable area. The population of Menston has been steadily increasing. As a result Menston primary school, which was threatened with closure in the 1980s, is also seeing increased student numbers. Highroyds is mentioned in the Kaiser Chiefs song of the same name, from the album, Yours Truly Angry Mob.

Transport

It lies on the A65, approximately ten miles north-west of the centre of Leedsmarker and 9 miles north of Bradfordmarker centre, between Guiseleymarker and Burley-in-Wharfedalemarker. Menston also has a railway stationmarker (also adjacent to those of Guiseley and Burley) on the Wharfedale line, with direct trains to Leedsmarker, Bradford Forster Squaremarker and Ilkleymarker. There are bus services to Leedsmarker, Otleymarker and Wetherbymarker (an infrequent bus service run by Utopia). Menston once had rail links to Otley, via the (now closed) Arthingtonmarker to Menston Line.
