2005 from the merger of the old city of
Kaseda, with the town of
Kinpō, from
Hioki District, and the towns of
Bonotsu,
Kasasa and
Ōura, all from
Kawanabe District, .

2004 population data, the city has an estimated
population of 42,258 and a
density of 149 persons per km². The total
area is 283.30 km².
