Mora Ishockeyklubb is a Swedishmarker professional ice hockey club from Moramarker, Swedenmarker. They are currently playing in the second highest league in Sweden, HockeyAllsvenskan. Mora has played four seasons in the top Swedish league Elitserien (2004–05 to 2007–08) and 21 seasons in earlier top-level leagues of Sweden (1945–46 to 1948–49, 1950–51 to 1951–52, 1953–54, 1956–57 to 1958–59, 1962–63, 1964–65 and 1966–67 to 1974–75).

History

Mora IK was founded in 1935 and advanced to the top level of hockey in 1945. The team frequently visited the top 12 leagues, and later top 16, until 1975 when Elitserien was formed of 10 teams. After several seasons of play in the second-tier Allsvenskan, Mora won promotion to the Elitserien in 2004, and took advantage of the NHL lockout that season to sign several NHL players, including Shawn Horcoff, Daniel Cleary and brothers Marian Hossa and Marcel Hossa, which contributed to the Elitserien being one of the top destinations for NHL players during the cancelled 2004-05 season. They finished 9th that season, a respectable position for a newly-promoted team.

Honored Members

  • Number 17 is retired in honor of Hans Hansson, a centre who played for the club 1967–1984.
