Mosquito Squadron is a 1969 British war film.

Plot summary

It is about a fictional Second World War 'bouncing bomb' raid by Royal Air Force de Havilland Mosquito fighter-bomber aircraft on a chateau in Francemarker. The target is an underground tunnel in the grounds of the chateau where flying bombs are being constructed. David McCallum stars as Squadron Leader Quint Munroe and as well as leading the mission he comforts the wife of his friend who is missing in action. To add to the dramatic tension Munroe and his men learn that allied prisoners are also held in the chateau.

Production

Although not a sequel, the film is similar to the 1964 film 633 Squadron and is influenced by it, even using footage from the earlier film. The pre-title sequence of the film was also taken from an earlier film called Operation Crossbow. Bovingdon Airfieldmarker in Hertfordshiremarker was a location for many scenes in the film. 4 Flying Mosquitoes were based at the airfield. The 'chateau' used in the film is actually Minley Manormarker, the officers' mess of Gibraltar Barracks, near Farnboroughmarker in Hampshire.
