NYGz is a New York Citymarker hip hop group, consisting of members Shabeeno and Panchi. They are closely affiliated with DJ Premier and was the first group to release material on his Year Round Records label, with the Premier produced 12"-single "Giantz Ta Thiz"/"Strength" in 2002. The group first appeared on wax with the 1998 Gang Starr album "Moment of Truth" where Shabeeno (then known as Shiggy Sha) rhymed on the song "The Mall", Panchi was only featured through an interlude on the album since he was locked up at the time. The final Gang Starr album, 2003s "The Ownerz" included another collaboration with the NYGz with the song "Same Team, No Games"; which was also released as a single.

Welcome 2 G-Dom

In the middle of 2007, NYGz released their debut album "Welcome 2 G-Dom" through the Year Round Records imprint to good reviews. The album was marketed as a street album, sort of a warm-up for their next album, and featured lots of production from DJ Premier with help from Emile and newcomers Kingdom, Harlem Fatz and Thoro Tracks. The album was overseen, recorded and mixed by DJ Premier and guests on the LP included Lil' Fame from M.O.P., Blaq Poet, Troy S.L.U.G.G.S., Royal Flush and the closely affiliated rapper Rave who appeared on 6 of the albums 16 songs.

Pros & Cons

NYGz next album, Hustlers Union, is currently in the works and is set to be released on Year Round Records by late 2009 or early 2010. The album will be single-handedly produced by DJ Premier and feature label-mates Blaq Poet, Imani Montana and Nick Javas. Two tracks from the album has been previewed through DJ Premier's radioshow so far, "Policy" and "Ready".
