The
National Association of Secretaries of State
(
NASS) is a group composed of the
secretaries of
state of
U.S. states and
territories.
Currently, all
secretaries of state (except for Hawaii
and Wisconsin
, but including Washington D.C.
, Puerto Rico, the
U.S.
Virgin Islands
, and Guam
) are members
of NASS.
NASS
maintains its office in Washington, D.C.
, and promotes positions on issues of interest to
Secretaries of State: voter turnout, voting procedures, business
services, electronic government, securities, and government
archives.
The immediate past president of NASS is
Indiana Secretary of State
Todd Rokita. His term ended in July 2008
when Pennsylvania Secretary of State
Pedro A. Cortés became the first Puerto Rican
president of the organization for a one-year term.

NASS has taken a stand on the issue of the
United States presidential
primaries, promoting the
Rotating Regional Primary

Institute for Standards and Technology and the U.S.
Election Assistance
Commission to publish a plain English guide to the new
Voluntary Voting System
