National University is an accredited, private university based in La Jolla, Californiamarker with regional campuses located throughout that state and one in Nevadamarker.

Academics

National University is organized into five schools and one college; the School of Business and Management; the School of Education; the School of Engineering and Technology; the School of Health and Human Services; the School of Media and Communication; and the College of Arts and Sciences. Students can earn associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees. The university offers 100 undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as 22 teacher credential and certificate programs. It offers more than 100 graduate and undergraduate degree programs and over 300 courses online.

Accreditation

National University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), one of six official academic bodies responsible for the accreditation of public and private universities, colleges, secondary and elementary schools in the United States.

Affiliates

The National University System includes; National University, John F. Kennedy Universitymarker, National Polytechnic College of Science, National University International, National University Virtual High School, National University Academy, Spectrum Pacific Learning Company, and WestMed College. Entities related to the System include the Center for Integrative Health, the National University System Institute for Policy Research, and National University Golf Academy.

Recognition

In 2008, the university boasted 3 alumni as having received recognition as California Teacher of the Year by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

According to figures released in 2008 by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), National University has prepared more candidates for teaching credentials than any other university in California over the past nine years.

According to data from the ninth annual report of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) released on November 10, 2008, National University has surpassed nationwide benchmarks measuring the level of academic educational standards at four-year colleges and universities seven years in a row.

In 2006, National University earned an Emmy award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Pacific Southwest Chapter, for its "One University" commercial.

In 2002, National University received a "Baby Baldrige" Eureka Award from the California Council for Excellence, and repeated this honor in 2003.

Student Body

Roughly 22,000 full-time undergraduate and graduate students are currently enrolled.. The university was founded in 1971, and is the second-largest private nonprofit university in the state of Californiamarker. With 12,907 graduate students officially listed, National University ranks above all other institutions of higher education except University of Phoenix (40,432 enrolled) and Nova Southeastern University (13,717 enrolled).
