North Florida refers to the northernmost part of the U.S. state of Floridamarker, including those counties which border the states of Alabamamarker and Georgiamarker. It is differentiated from Central Floridamarker and South Floridamarker in many ways, most notably culture and climate. North Florida shares the climate of the Deep South, as opposed to the semi-tropical climate of south Florida, meaning that is has hotter summers and cooler winters than the peninsular part of the state. With the exception of urban enclaves, it is notably significantly more rural and politically conservative than the rest of the state, again bearing a far stronger resemblance to the Deep South states of Alabama and Georgia that it borders, as opposed to the more progressive, diverse, and densely-populated urban metropolises of central and south Florida. North Florida, with the exception of the Tallahassee metro area, votes solidly conservative in elections, and retains the fundamentalist Christian cultural influences found in the rural South. It also maintains a significantly different biodiversity than the rest of the state.
