North Lanarkshire ( , ) is one of 32 council areas in Scotlandmarker. It borders onto the north east of the City of Glasgowmarker and contains much of Glasgow's suburbs and commuter towns and villages. It also borders Stirling, Falkirkmarker, East Dunbartonshire, West Lothianmarker and South Lanarkshire. The council covers parts of the former counties of Lanarkshiremarker, Dunbartonshiremarker, and Stirlingshiremarker.

The area was formed in 1996, largely from the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, Motherwellmarker and Monklands districts.
