Old Forge is a hamlet on New York State Route 28 in the town of Webbmarker in Herkimer County, New Yorkmarker. Old Forge was formerly a village that dissolved its incorporation, but remains the principal community in the region. Old Forge forms an extensive business district, primarily directed at tourism especially during the summer months. The local school is the Town of Webb UFSD, a K-12 institution with the Eskimo as their mascot.

Attractions

Enchanted Forest Water Safarimarker is New York's largest water theme park . It has 50 rides and attractions, including 32 water slides, as well as shops, restaurants, photographers, and a circus show.

The town is also home to Adirondack Woodcraft Camp, located off Rondaxe Road. It was founded in 1925 as an outdoor camp for boys by Chief William Abbott. The now coeducational camp still welcomes children each summer and is one of the oldest summer camps remaining in the nation. Owned by the Leach family, it continues to be a summer camping expirience.

Interesting Facts

Old Forge was the first place in the United States to use a mail boat to deliver mail to houses on the lake. The boat is still run today and is one of only a few dozen mailboats still operating in the United States.

Old Forge often records the lowest winter temperatures in New York. On February 17, 1979, the record low temperature for New York was set in Old Forge at -52 degrees Fahrenheit.
