British Paratroopers in a deployment zone near Port San Carlos
During the 1982 Falklands War, Operation Sutton was the British landings on the shores of San Carlos Watermarker, at Ajax Baymarker and Port San Carlosmarker, near the San Carlosmarker on East Falklandmarker. During the night 3 Commando Brigademarker with attached units of the Parachute Regiment were landed from the liner SS Canberra and the LPD HMS Fearless. There was very limited enemy resistance. However, a small Argentinian army platoon managed to shoot down two British army Gazelle helicopters before retreating north.

The invasion, part of the overall Operation Corporate plan sparked a strong reply from the Argentine Air Force and the Comando de AviaciĆ³n Naval Argentina who sunk the frigates HMS Ardent and HMS Antelope at a cost of 12 warplanes, most of them A4A Skyhawks.
