Orbe
Orbe ( ; ) is a municipality in the Swissmarker canton of Vaudmarker. The town lies on the Orbe marker and has around 5,100 inhabitants. It is the seat of the district of Orbe counting 19,000 inhabitants.

The town has a coffee factory owned by Nestlé producing Nespresso, a marionette museum, late-Gothic church and Roman mosaics and ruins.

The Roman Mosaics are composed of several hundreds of pieces on the floor of the original site which was once part of an extremely large Roman villa, a palace belonging to a rich but unknown landowner. The villa was built in approximately AD 160 and abandoned around the year AD 270.

Ancient history

During the Roman times, Orbe - then known as Urba - was a town of Gallia, in the territory of the Helvetii. In the Antonine Itinerary it is placed between Lacus Lausonius and Ariolica, xviii m.p. from Lacus Lausonius and xxiiii m.p. from Ariolica.
