Ossett School and Sixth Form College is the only high school in Ossettmarker, a town in the county of West Yorkshire, Englandmarker.

The student uniform for Year 11 pupils consists of a black sweater, with black or grey trousers, with suitable coloured lanyard, to inform what community they are in. Girls also have the choice of a black/grey skirt. A black and yellow striped tie is worn. Lower School pupils must wear similar attire but with blue sweaters and a blue tie. The school is in the location of a mill owner's house, who also had a similar house built for his brother around a kilometre away. A tunnel links the two buildings, but that has now been blocked off.

Academic performance

The school is known to have a good Mathematics department which is headed by Mr Mel Suffield. Ossett School, at 2006, was in the top 10% of schools in the country. In the last Ofsted Report, Ossett School came in at Outstanding, Grade 1. The school is a state school, meaning no tests need to be passed to be allowed in, and is not restricted by faith.

Over the last five years, its results have improved significantly and it is now consistently near the top of the league tables for comprehensive schools in the Wakefield districtmarker. This has contributed to the town's boom in house prices.

Specialist school

As of Spring 2006, Ossett School became one of the few state schools to be awarded a dual Specialist School status. The school will now be known as a Specialist Technology and Sports College.

The school's website is constantly updated. The website now contains a special VTLE (virtual teaching and learning environment), where the pupils and staff can log in and communicate over forums and an instant messaging service. The school has recently provided parents with access to the VTLE, giving them live information on their child's attendance, assessment, timetable and course information.

Music showcase

The School holds an annual music showcase as well as a dance showcase. The music showcase has a large variety of music from students including the school orchestra, brass bands, junior and senior choirs, recorder group and a Battle of the Bands in which school rock bands play for the audience.

Healthy eating

The School has a healthy eating policy which ensures a diverse and healthy menu is delivered every day.

Drake building

In 2005 the new building, Christened the 'Drake' building after school governor David Drake, was completed. The Drake Building is home to the music department with state of the art equipment, practice rooms and recording studio. The sixth form department moved to this new building too and there is a sixth form cafe open through the school day in the sixth form common room, off limits to main school students. The building was constructed on old tennis courts and is now neighbour to a brand new multi-purpose sports courts for netball, tennis and football using all weather materials.
