Latest elections

Despite the fact that candidates supporting Ludwig Scotty's Administration were overwhelmingly sanctioned by the electorate during the 2007 Parliamentary elections, a new government was formed in late 2007 under a new President of Nauru, Marcus Stephen. These development occurred following ministerial crises and two motions of no confidence. Amidst accusations of a coup d'├ętat, by March 2008 the Stephen Administration was ruling without the support of a viable Parliamentary majority, as it enjoyed the support of only 9 MPs out of 18. A fresh election on April 26 gave the Stephen government a full majority.
