Pipavav is located at latitude 20°54'N and longitude 71°30'E on the cost of Gujaratmarker, Indiamarker. By road it is located 2.5 Hrs (130km) from Bhavnagarmarker on the east and 1.5 hrs (89km) from Diumarker in the west.

Pipavav is the location of Port Pipavav, which is the first private sector port in India ([111642]). Pipavav port is capable of handling container as well as bulk vessels and many shipping lines are using the port facilities currently. The cargo throughput for the port is available on their website. Port Pipavav handled around 200,000 TEUs of container cargo in 2008

Pipavav started operations in 1996 primarily to cater to the refrigerated cargo market of Veraval but has over the years developed into a port handling various bulk, break bulk and dry container cargo moving in from various nearby and north/west India locations. It has scheduled connectivity to all major Internal Container Depots.
