Pomigliano d'Arco is an Italianmarker town, in the Campania region, northeast of Naplesmarker, near Mount Vesuviusmarker, administratively part of the province of Naples. At the 2001 census the municipality had a population of 40,519 inhabitants and a land area of 11.44 km² (4.417 sq mi).

The city is home to several automobile and aeronautic manufacturing firms.

World War II

During World War II, Pomigliano was the location of a large military airfield and base, and was attacked on several occasions by the United States Army Air Force. The airfield was later used by the USAAF Twelfth Air Force during the Italian campaign and known as Pomigliano Airfield.

After the war the area was redeveloped for new buildings. Today the precise location of the airfield is undetermined, as urban development in the Naples area has obliterated all traces of it.
