A premium station is a type of railway station on Melbournemarker's suburban rail network which is operated by Metro Trains Melbourne.

Each premium station has:
  • Staff who are available, from the beginning to the end of daily train service, for ticket sales (including concession cards and V/Line tickets), answering of customer queries, and general running of the station (including, for example, bookings for bicycle locker hire).
  • A high standard of passenger amenities such as open male, female and disabled toilets, CCTV cameras, bright lighting, bicycle cages and lockers, an enclosed waiting room and at some stations, newspaper and snack kiosks.


The premium station program was commenced in 1994 under the Public Transport Corporation., with Mount Waverleymarker being the first station receiving premium status. By the end of 1995 the number of staffed stations increased from 35 to 51.

The five City Loop stations (Flinders Streetmarker, Southern Crossmarker, Flagstaffmarker, Melbourne Centralmarker, and Parliamentmarker) are all premium stations. Other stations are assigned premium status based mainly on their level of patronage. There are currently 73 premium stations, including:

There are three existing stations which will be upgraded to premium in the near future to bring the total number of premium stations to 76.
