Richmond railway station is
a station on the Richmond branch of
the Western line of
Sydney
's CityRail network.
It is the
terminus of the line and is the furthest distance one can travel
from Central
on the suburban CityRail network.
It serves
the residential and commercial area of Richmond, New
South Wales
, Australia, as well as
surrounding suburbs. The station has an
island platform served by two dead end
tracks, plus a stabling siding. The platform has ramps down to the
street access and therefore has
Easy
Access for wheelchairs.
History
The line opened in 1864. In 1926, an
extension northwards
to
Kurrajong opened. This
extension closed in 1952 after flooding, due to low and
uneconomical levels of traffic, and little evidence of it now
remains. Electrification was completed to Richmond station in 1991,
and at that time significant remodelling of the tracks at the
station was performed, including the building of the current train
storage sidings on the northern side of the station and removal of
tracks from the southern side.
Platforms/Service
The station is generally served by approximately two trains per
hour. Trains may depart for and arrive from Sydney and Berowa at
both platforms.
