Sir Robert Boyd (c.1710 - 13 May 1794, Gibraltar) was a British army officer. He was baptized on 20 April 1710 at Richmond, Surreymarker and attended Glasgow Universitymarker before entering the army in his father Ninian's profession of civilian storekeeper. Serving at the siege of Minorca (1756) and as commissary general to the marquess of Granby in Germany (1758-59), he rose through the officer ranks to be three-times governor of Gibraltar (1776-77, 1790, 1790-94).

Notes

  1. Having attempted to reach Admiral John Byng's fleet in an open boat with a message from the garrison commander William Blakeney, he later witnessed at Byng's court-martial.
