SKA Saint Petersburg ( ) is a Russianmarker professional ice hockey team that plays in the Kontinental Hockey League.

SKA is an abbreviation for "Sports (K)Club of the Army". Originally, players and staff were actual army personnel, in later Soviet times - officers "on paper". This, in Soviet times, provided for both a significantly higher pay scale, since all military personnel received a hefty bonus based on rank, which was important since the Soviet Union lacked truly high salaries entirely (the highest military, government, and civilian positions received at best 5-10 times the minimum wage - even ministers, generals, and industrial CEOs), and the "amateur" status required for participation in the Olympics.
