Salavat Yulaev ( ) is a professional ice hockey team based in Ufamarker in the Republic of Bashkortostan, a federal subject of the Russian Federationmarker. They are members of the Bobrov Division of the Kontinental Hockey League, and were part of Group C of the 2008–09 Champions Hockey League. By winning the 2008–09 KHL regular season the team has qualified for the qualification round 2 of the 2009–10 Champions Hockey League.

History

The team is named after Salavat Yulaev, a national hero of Bashkiria who was from Ufa. Previously, it was known as Trud Ufa (1957 to 1959) and Gastello Ufa (1959-1962). Salavat Yulaev was the winner of the last Russian Super League title, in 2008.

Salavat Yulaev Ufa has played in 77 international matches with clubs from of Bulgariamarker , Denmarkmarker , Latviamarker , Polandmarker, Romaniamarker, Finlandmarker, Croatiamarker, Czechoslovakiamarker, Switzerlandmarker, Swedenmarker (with a record of 67 victories, 5 ties, 5 defeats) . Its first international match was played on December, 30th, 1961 in Ufa with Bismuth (GDR).

Recent History

On July 11, 2008, Salavat signed NHL rising star Alexander Radulov.On June 9, 2009, a press release was issued, stating that Viktor Kozlov had signed a three-year contract to return to Russia. The club has also signed Norwegianmarker forward Patrick Thoresen to a contract prior to the 2009-10 season.
