"Someday (I Will Understand)" is a song by American pop singer Britney Spears from her first EP, Chaotic. It was released on September 21, 2005, by Jive Records as the first and only single from the EP. Also in Japan it was released as an alone EP with 3 additional songs and a remix that also appeared on the Chaotic.

Song information

"Someday" was written by Spears herself two weeks after she learned of her pregnancy with her first child, Sean Preston. This was the second time that she plays an instrument in recording a song, but so far the first time she was credited; she plays the piano on this record. She composed the melody on piano for "Everytime" but was not officially credited for than one. The track was produced by Guy Sigsworth, who also produced the song "Everytime", similar in instrumentation.

The standard version of "Someday (I Will Understand)" has been included on the EP, Chaotic and well as the deluxe fan box set version of Spears' 2009 Greatest Hits album The Singles Collection. The Hi-Bias Signature Radio Mix was included on Spears' first remix album, B in the Mix: The Remixes. It was also included as a bonus track on the Japanese, European and Australian pressings of the Chaotic EP.

Chart performance

No release date was set for "Someday" in major international markets such as the United Kingdommarker and Australia, though the single did receive airplay in continental Europe. It reached the top ten in Denmarkmarker, Swedenmarker and Switzerlandmarker and became a moderate hit in the rest of the European countries where it was released.

Music video

The music video for "Someday" premiered on the finale of Spears's reality show Britney and Kevin: Chaotic. In the video, a pregnant Spears is found about her home on her bed and looking out onto her yard, which includes a statue of an angel and leaves falling from the trees. This was the first of Spears' videos to be shot entirely in black-and-white. Spears said that the best word to describe the video was "simplicity", and that both the song and video perfectly captured the point she had then reached in her life. The video was directed by Michael Haussman and produced by Nina Wong for Person Films.
