Stéphane Yelle (born May 9, 1974, Bourget, Ontariomarker) is a professional ice hockey centre currently playing with the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL.

Playing career

Yelle was drafted in the 8th round (186th overall) in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils. On June 1, 1994, he was traded to the Quebec Nordiques, who became the Colorado Avalanche before he had a chance to play for them in Quebecmarker. Known as an excellent faceoff taker and a gritty, hard-working player, Yelle played for the Avalanche from 1995 to 2002, winning two Stanley Cups, in 1996 and 2001. He's also known for his versatility, playing as a defenceman on the Calgary Flames when many defensemen were out injured. Yelle excelled as a shot blocker and checking specialist with the defensive minded Calgary Flames.

On September 3, 2008, the Boston Bruins signed Yelle to a one-year, free agent deal worth $750,000. While permanent alternate captain Patrice Bergeron and rotating alternate captains Marco Sturm and Andrew Ference have been injured, Yelle had been wearing the "A" for the Bruins in 2008–09.

On August 19, 2009 Yelle signed a 1 year contract worth $550,000 with the Carolina Hurricanes.

On October 26, 2009 the Carolina Hurricanes placed Yelle on waivers..
