University Health Centre (MUHC), St. Mary's is a
teaching hospital. The hospital is located
on 3830 Lacombe Avenue in the borough of
Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.
Serving a very ethnically diverse community, staff members are able
to communicate in over 30 different languages.
First
located at Shaughnessy House (now the Canadian Centre
for Architecture
) in the Shaughnessy
Village neighbourhood of Downtown
Montreal, it has since moved to its current location in
Côte-des-Neiges
where it has 316 beds. It was founded in
1924 by Dr. Donald A. Hingston, St. Mary's Hospital was originally
a 45 bed institution.
