Swarthmore is a station along the SEPTA R3 line, the former Pennsylvania Railroad West Chester Line. It is located on Chester Road between downtown Swarthmoremarker and the edge of the Swarthmore Collegemarker campus (2 South Chester Road (Chester Road & Park Avenue) Swarthmore, PA 19081). Dollar-a-day parking and permit parking are available. It is the first zone 3 station outward bound from central Philadelphia stations. The fare to and from Central Philadelphia is currently $4.25 during off-peak hours, and an additional surcharge is assessed for those who buy a ticket on the train, regardless of whether the ticket window is open.

The ticket office is located on the outbound side of the tracks, within a building used otherwise by Swarthmore Collegemarker and the Chester Children's Chorus. The building was originally built in 1880 by the Pennsylvania Railroad and formerly held a cafe, the Jumping Cow.
