Club Atlético Talleres is a
sports club from the city of Córdoba
, Argentina
, mostly known for their professional football team, currently in the regionalised third division. They
play the Córdoba Derby against
Belgrano.
History
The club was founded in 1913 as
Atlético Talleres Central
Córdoba, by workers of the
Córdoba Central Railway, with
support from the company. In 1914 they joined the Córdoba local
league, and in 1925 the parallel National Amateur League, and then
the Amateur Second division.
With the professionalization of the game in 1931, the club became
professional. But in 1938 they were relegated to
Second Division (
Segunda
División, later
Primera B), where they stayed until
1960, when they were relegated to Third Division (by then known as
Segunda División).
Three seasons later the team returned to the Second Division
(
Primera B), but in 1967, with the reorganisation of the
lower divisions, they went straight to Third Division (
Primera
C) in 1968 for 2 seasons.

Talleres team in 1974
During the 1970s and 1980s, the team alternated between the First,
Second and Third division, achieving the second (1977) and third
(1980) place of the First Division Championship.
Luis Ludueña in 1976 (12) and
José Reinaldi in 1978 (18) were the
league top scorers.
Talleres were again promoted to
First Division after the
1993/94 championship, only return to second division after a poor
performance in 1994/95. On the following season, the club finished
first during the
Clausura of the Second
Division but lost the Championship to Huracán de Corrientes.
In what was known by fans as the "Final of the Millennium,"
Talleres won its first Argentine title, the
Second Division 1997/98
championship on penalty kick shootout against all-time rival
Belgrano de Córdoba,
earning them promotion to the First Division.
Later, Talleres' good performance in first division qualified the
team for the 2001
Copa Mercosur and
the 2002
Copa
Libertadores, being the first and only Córdoba team so far to
qualify for these continental tournaments. Talleres reached the
round of 16 in the Mercosur, only to lose against
Gremio. Talleres in
the Libertadores was eliminated in the first stage.
Despite
finishing in third place during the Clausura tournament of the 2003-04 season and
qualifying for the Copa Libertadores once again, the team were
relegated, due to poor results in the previous 2 seasons, after
losing to Argentinos
Juniors
in the promotion/relegation play-off. By
Argentine rules, the team lost its Libertadores bid because of
this.
In 2008-09 Talleres were relegated once again, this time to the
Third Division, via the point
average system despite finishing in 12th place of 20 teams in
Primera B Nacional.
