Tehachapi Pass


Tehachapi Pass (elevation ) is a mountain pass in southern Californiamarker in the United Statesmarker, due east of the town of Tehachapimarker.

It is located at the northeast end of the Tehachapi Mountains where they connect to the southern end of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The pass effectively marks the southern end of the Sierra. The pass connects the San Joaquin Valleymarker to the Mojave Desert. It is crossed by State Route 58 and the main line of the former Southern Pacific Railroad, now operated by the Union Pacific Railroad. The railroad feature known as Tehachapi Loopmarker is located approximately west of the pass. The area around to the east and south of the pass is home to the Tehachapi Pass Wind Farmmarker, one of California's larger wind farms. The pass will also serve as the route for the California High-Speed Rail line between Palmdalemarker and Bakersfieldmarker.

The Tehachapi Mountains are also crossed by Tejon Passmarker at the southern end.
