The University of Technology, Jamaica
("UTech") is the second largest university in Jamaica
.
Foundation
Located in
the Kingston
Metropolitan
Area, it was formally accorded university status on 1 September 1995. The
institution began life in 1958 as the Jamaica Institute of
Technology and was expanded into the College of Arts, Science and
Technology (CAST) before becoming an independent university during
the mid-1990s.
Programmes
The institution offers over 100 programmes in five faculties. These
are; the Built Environment, Business and Management, Health and
Applied Sciences, Engineering and Computing and Education and
Liberal Arts.
Courses are offered at the
certificate,
diploma,
undergraduate and
post-graduate degree levels.
The Faculty of the Built Environment consists of the School of
Building and Land Management and the Caribbean School of
Architecture, the only architectural school in the English-speaking
Caribbean.
The Schools of Business Administration and Hospitality and Tourism
Management are located within the Faculty of Business and
Management.
The School of Pharmacy and Health Science and the Department of
Science and Mathematics comprise the Faculty of Health and Applied
Science.
The Schools of Computing and
Information Technology and
Engineering fall within the Faculty of
Engineering and computing while the Faculty of Education and
Liberal Arts contains the programmes of the Department of
Liberal Studies and the School of Technical
and Vocational Education.
