Vatroslav Lisinski

Vatroslav Lisinski (8 July 1819 in Zagrebmarker 31 May 1854 Zagrebmarker) was a Croatianmarker composer.

Lisinski was one of the founders of the Illyrian movement, the return to Croatian cultural heritage, as a reaction to Magyarisation during Austro-Hungarian rule.

Lisinski composed the first Croatian opera, "Ljubav i zloba" ("Love and Malice", 1846), which he wrote at the urging of Alberto Štriga, and "Porin" (1851) as well as numerous works for orchestra, choir and soloists.

He changed his name from his Christened name Ignaz Fuchs to Vatroslav Lisinski, which is the Croatian translation of the former.
