WRKA (103.9 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Classic Country music format. Licensed to Louisville, Kentuckymarker, USA, the station serves the greater Louisville area. The station is currently owned by Cox Radio, Inc.

History

In January, 1975, the station first came on the air as WFIA-FM, sister station to AM-900, WFIA. The call letters were later changed to WXLN.

On 1990-07-02 the call letters were changed to WZKS. The station was then known as "Kiss 104". It played Top 40 music.

On 1993-03-15 the station changed its call sign to WHKW. It was called "The Hawk". It played country music until those call letters and format were moved to the more powerful station on 107.7, now known as WSFR.

On 1994-06-29 the call letters were changed to WQLL. "Cool 104" played a seventies format.

On 1996-06-03 the format was changed to "Smooth Jazz", with the call letters WSJW.

On 1998-05-29 the call letters were changed to WMHX, and the format switched to a Hot Adult Contemporary. The station was called "Mix 103.9".

On 2000-11-24 the station adopted an 80s format, called "The Point". The call letters were switched to WPTK, then a week later, on 2000-12-20 to WPTI.

In October, 2004, the format was changed to "New Country". The call letters remained WPTI.

On 2008-07-18 the call letters were changed to the current WRKA. It switched from a New Country format to its current Classic Country format at 5:00pm on 2008-07-23. The New Country format moved to its more powerful sister station, WQNUmarker.
