War Zone is a 1998 documentary about street harassment, written and directed by Maggie Hadleigh-West.

Premise

Hadleigh-West turns her camera on men throughout the United Statesmarker, asking them why they whistle at or make comments at women who pass them on the street. In response, some men feel compelled to apologize, hit her, yell at her, or engage her in conversation. "Through these conversations, Hadleigh-West reveals the anger, fear and frustration as well as the affection, admiration and humor that characterizes relationships between men and women."

Reception

War Zone premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in the Forum for New Cinema, where it was nominated for the grand prize, played to sold out crowds, and received heated response and extensive publicity. The theatrical release of "War Zone" was in the summer of 1998 at the prestigious Film Forum in New York City.
