The
Washoe County School District (WCSD) is a public school district
providing public education to
students in Washoe
County
, Nevada
, including
the cities of Reno
, Sparks
, Verdi
, Incline Village
, and Gerlach. As of
September 2006, the
school district
had 63,098
students enrolled. It is the
second largest school district in the state of Nevada. The
school board typically meets three times
monthly: once for planning and budgeting; once forperformance
monitoring; and once as a regular business meeting.
The Board of Trustees
appoint a
superintendent who is in charge
of the day-to-day operations of the school district. The current
superintendent is Paul Dugan who was appointed interim
superintendent in July 2004 and was selected as the permanent
superintendent in January 2005. The organizational structure of the
district has recently changed. Currently, there are three
additional superintendents in charge of specific areas (elementary
education, secondary education, and operations). There are also
four assistant superintendents (for human resources, high school
education, student support services, and public policy,
accountability, and management).

schools, a special education
school, 15 middle schools, 12
comprehensive high schools, Truckee Meadows
Community College
(TMCC) High School, Washoe High School (an
alternative school) and the Regional Technical
Institute.
In the WCSD, elementary schools typically include
kindergarten through
sixth grade, middle schools include
seventh grade and
eighth grade, and high schools include
ninth grade through
twelfth grade.
